The 15Th Ishara International Puppet Festival 2017
 

It's time to celebrate! 2017 marks the 30th anniversary of the Ishara Puppet Theatre Trust; a momentous milestone for us. The festivities for this pearl anniversary have already begun, with the 15th Ishara International Puppet Theatre Festival.

Since 2001, the trust has supported and nurtured the festival, which, from humble beginnings, has grown into the country's leading established platform for Indian and International puppetry.

Produced by Teamworks Productions, the Ishara International Puppet Theatre Festival is back and it's more spectacular than ever! Whether you're age nine or ninety - get ready to be entertained with a variety of sensational, inspirational and magical shows. From the traditional to modern forms of puppetry, ranging from rod to string puppets; to mixed performances with dance, theatre, music and more-the festival has a dazzling line up of pioneering puppetry entertainment and storytelling for all ages.

Alongside the best talent India has to offer, puppeteers, artists and performers from across the world will come together to celebrate the art of puppetry. Over a 150 international puppetry companies have already performed at the festival since its inception.Countries that have participated include the UK, Belgium, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Turkey, Brazil, Sweden, Norway, Israel, Iran, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Taiwan, Japan, Afghanistan, Ireland, Australia, Switzerland & USA.

India is a world-renowned centre for puppeteers, artists and performers, and is an ideal choice for such a gathering of talent on the planet. The country boasts a historic association with puppetry and the arts which stretches back to the 2nd century B.C. This year the festival will take place from the 3rd to 10th February 2017 at the Indian Habitat Centre in New Delhi, Auditorium-Artemis Hospital Gurgaon and the Tagore Theatre, Chandigarh.

A veritable explosion of family fun, music and creativity; this clever and witty production makes the young and old learn important values without preaching or nagging! Three clowns and a puppet wittily engage with each other and the audience, highlighting the tolerant / intolerant times we live in. Inspired by the words of Rumi & Timothy Keller, Pudumjee & Ishara cleverly weave a medley of performances together on things we see all around us - from food to violence, to matrimonial columns to street children aspiring to go to school - to teach us the importance of tolerance, compassion and love.

The much loved children's tale by Barbro Lindgren comes to life in this award winning, inspirational and sensational performance. Our hero is a lonely, little old man who lives in an unfriendly town. One day, he meets a big, loveable dog, whose companionship changes his life forever. The friendly doggy later makes a new friend, and the little old man worries that his four legged pal will soon forget all about him. What happens next is a surprise! A delightful story on how to make and maintain friendships - discover the true meaning of being a friend.

Based on the Persian Poet Rumi's work; it's a colourful extravaganza about existence, life and freedom. A merchant is known across the land for his talking and singing parrot. One day, the merchant is visiting India on business and asks all what they would like as gifts from there. Everyone wants exotic and rich things like silk, jewels and more-but the beautiful parrot, when asked, says her gift is a message to the free parrots of India. How do you think this tale will end? Only the audience get to find out the beautiful ending.

Meet Iran's most famous marionette and oldest puppet character - Mobarak! The dashing courtier falls in love with the beautiful dancer Tayareh, but she has many suitors wooing her. So his master teaches him how to win her heart, but before he can marry her, an evil Demon suddenly comes and steals Mobarak away. Tayareh learns of his kidnapping, and with the help of a wise Kathputli from Rajasthan visiting Iran, goes on an epic quest to rescue Mobarak. Will the two sweethearts live happily ever after? Watch this fantastic, music filled show to find out.

Based on two traditional Palestinian folk tales, it's a fun-filled, fantasy adventure with many mischievous puppets. Our hero is a seven year old physically challenged boy, with whom the other children don't like to play with, because he's different from them. His mother gives him an old book to read, and he's then magically transported to Wonderland, where he has many happy adventures with new friends. This heart warming parable will teach kids of all ages that children with special needs are much like them in many ways. Be prepared to be moved and enriched by this extraordinary performance.
