Since its inception from 2001, the festival has enjoyed full houses across all shows every year.
Several countries that have participated in the last 9 years besides India are Belgium, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Turkey, Iran, USA, Brazil, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Taiwan, Japan, Sweden, Norway, Israel, Ireland and Bangladesh.
The shows range from traditional rod & string puppets to visual stories & epics.
The festival produced by Teamwork Productions, focuses on new contemporary work from India and abroad and is seen as an established platform to further multi media arts in India.
The dates for the festivals are 1st -16th February and venues are Indian Habitat Centre New Delhi, Epicentre Gurgaon and NCPA Mumbai.

HAMARA CIRCUS

Welcome to the circus of life, where snake charmers, loveable dalmatians, scarves and other characters are brought to life by the talented performers of the Kuch Kuch Puppet Theatre India, who tell their stories without words, but full of emotions. A series of small string puppet vignettes set to music from all around the world - boundaries dissolve and continents are connected by this fun filled, non verbal musical extravaganza.
Nurtured by the Salaam Balaak Trust, Director Mohhameed Shameem first studied theatre and then sculpture, before deciding that puppet theatre was his calling. Today, the twenty four year old has his own production house, Kuch Kuch Puppet Theatre based out of Delhi.
A must watch for the whole family.

A hilarious, rib-tickling, one-woman show, Chaplain creates magic by clowning around and transforming ordinary items like a lamp post and paper towels into human objects. Meet a quirky, single woman, who meets a man, falls in love, gets married, goes on a Hawaiian honeymoon and has a baby – all in a day!
It’s Charlie Chaplin & Lucille Ball’s slapstick & tragic comedy rolled into one. Audiences engage and participate in Chaplain’s wild theatrical antics and ultimately find themselves transported, moved and enriched by this extraordinary evening on the stage.
HILARY CHAPLAIN has been recognized as one of America’s foremost professional physical comediennes, performing her award winning original solo and ensemble work for over a decade throughout the United States, Canada, South America, Europe and Asia.
Director AVNER EISENBERG is a well loved American vaudeville performer, clown, mime, juggler, and sleight of hand magician. He played the title role (the Holy Man known as the "Jewel") in the 1985 hit film The Jewel of the Nile.

Sanjay, a young man, leaves home & becomes a musician in Varanasi under the famous court-musician Ananda. He falls in love with his teacher’s daughter Nandita, and then the King decides he needs only one musician in his court. So Sanjay & his master have to compete in a concert -and only one can stay in the court! Adapted from an old Buddhist tale, (500 stories) from the Dshatakam, it’s about finding ones place in the world and discovering their true calling.
An Indo-German Puppet-music-theatre-project, Sanjay & His Master brings together Western and India artists together and will help children appreciate classical India music. A musical delight for the whole family!
Performer MATTHIAS KUCHTA presented his first professional production “The Bremen Town Musicians” in 1982. Since then he has become one of the most well known & loved puppeteers across the world. His dedication to entertain children and adults has won him numerous accolades and awards.
Director DADI PUDUMJEE is one of India’s foremost and innovative puppeteers. The first non-European President of the International Puppetry Organisation UNIMA (Union International de la Marionette); in 1986, he established the Ishara Puppet Theatre Trust. He’s helped contemporary puppetry gain legitimacy as an art form in India. For his efforts he’s been bestowed with numerous accolades including the Padmashree in 2011.

THE EARTH & THE UNIVERSE

Seven stories of life, faith, freedom, miracles, biblical characters and more from the great 13th Century Sufi poet Rumi’s much loved book Masnavi are retold in this entertaining and delightful show. In A Small Green, we meet a sweet mouthed cow; while in Umar & The Harpist an old harp player gets a second chance. In The Parrot and the Merchant, we meet a clever imprisoned parrot who feigns death to be free. In the show stopper Moses & The Shepherd, the prophet Moses learns from his mistakes and apologizes to a shepherd. Every story imparts a divine & important message to the enchanted audience.
Tehran based Yase-e-Tamam was formed in 1990 by Iranian director and puppet designer ZAHRA KHIALI SABRI. The group has performed in theatres and festivals around the world including Spain, France and Lebanon. The Earth & The Universe received the jury's special prize at the 12th Mobarak International Puppet Theater Festival in Tehran in 2008.

The story is universal and magical: what do inanimate things do when they're not being used? There are two housewives who are neighbors and constantly quarrelling with each other. While drying clothes in the backyard, they constantly compare whose clothes are more beautiful, expensive, stylish and etc. The two finally break up in discord.
In the two quarreling neighbors’ backyards, there are toys & clothes lying about, when a big red balloon comes by and touches each of them. Everything comes alive and each has its own interesting story to tell. The two neighbors and the audience learn a valuable lesson as a result of this.
After studying in the United States, CHENG-CHIEH (JACK) SUN came back to Taiwan to form The Puppet Beings Theater Company in 2000. A seasoned modern puppet performing artist, Sun's work has been acclaimed in Taiwan and across the world and his company organizes three events annually in Taiwan.

A well loved, ancient children’s fairy tale, Buzak-e-Chini (a goat) and her three kids live in a jungle. One day she has to leave her kids alone and before leaving she warns them of the dangers of opening the door for strangers. Despite her warnings, a greedy wolf that joins forces with a cunning fox, jackal and raven, manages to trick the three little kids and capture them for dinner. The brave mother goat takes on the villains, before the King of all animals, the Lion, delivers a wise verdict.
PARWAZ is the first independent puppet theatre ensemble in Afghanistan, founded by young theatre professionals and supported by the Goethe-Institute, Kabul, Afghanistan.
Their goals are the revival of Afghan puppet theatre traditions, as well as the development of a modern Afghan puppet theatre. Their plays and performance for educating and entertaining the children and the youth are developed with the assistance of the German puppet theatre expert Wieland Jagodzinski, teacher at Ernst Busch Academy of Drama, Berlin.

This award winning one woman performance is a visual spectacle of object and paper theatre that brings the classic black and white cinema of Hollywood back to life. A lonely & dull secretary daydreams she’s a glamourous 1940s movie star while going through the black and white photos from the old film magazines she keeps. As her fantasy unravels - romance, intrigue, obsession, imagination and reality collide to become a Hitchcock worthy, absurd & humorous nightmare. The show reveals the obsessions and dangers of Romantic fantasies.
One of Israel’s most loved performers, YAEL RASOOLY creates a visual language using different forms of theater, music and contemporary puppetry. Rasooly was trained primarily as a classical singer, and went on to study theater design. She graduated in directing and puppetry at the School of Visual Theater in Jerusalem. Since 2006, her work has been showcased to great acclaim throughout Europe, South America, and the Far East.

Two fun packed shows for kids and folks of all ages; get prepared to meet an array of loveable and colourful puppet characters. In “Oh Rats!” theres Magica the magician, who’s new assistant turns Magica’s world upside down. Cheeky rats, a sausage circus, an escapologist duck and a very special magic hat will make you rub your hands in glee. Anything you put into the magic hat multiplies and becomes two but, if you put yellow things in the hat - they disappear!
In “A Package for Granny” well known children’s nursery rhymes and tales come to life as we join Granny and her friends Green and Yellow and the little Turtle on a happy little adventure to find Granny’s lost package. The show is very engaging and entertaining for young children; and the adults in the audience will enjoy themselves as well.
Formed in 1984, The Sydney Puppet Theatre is the creative team of SUE WALLACE & STEVE COUPE who specialize in creating puppetry productions for the family audience. Apart from creating shows for theatre, theatre-in-education and cabaret, they have also worked in film, television and advertising. Well loved in Australia, the group has performed to enthusiastic young audiences in Hungary, Mexico, Japan, Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore, Austria and Germany.

Adapted from various Gond, Santhal, Bilal & Adavasi tribal myths thousands of years old, these stories will enlighten one on how the earth was created & life came to be. This fascinating & humorous performance adapts the indigenous art forms of these tribal people and is magically brought to life by Ishara founder Dadi Pudumjee with shadow puppets and other shadow and projection techniques.

With a universal appeal to both children and adults alike; over the past decade, LAURA KIBEL an imaginative Italian musician, costume, set and puppet designer has caused a sensation with audiences worldwide with this original, humorous, poetic and music filled performance. Kibel is responsible for all the elements of this award winning show; from composing the soundtracks to the hand made noses, masks, costumes and props.

Based on the fairytales of Margarit Minkov, it’s a fun-filled family show with puppets, dance and theatre. It tells a story about a hen who lays a bonbon instead of an egg and we follow her hilarious misadventures as she tries to sort out this problem. In the end, inspired by a sunny day and the children around, she convinces herself that there is nothing wrong in doing something unusual and different if it brings joy to others.
Chick with a Trick is the winner of numerous awards and has had more than 150 performances in the Bulgaria, Norway, Slovenia, Romania, Albania, Pakistan, Iceland, Croatia, Slovakia, The Netherlands, Germany, Turkey and the US.
Bulgaria’s Pro Rodopi Art Centre (PRAC) is an independent cultural centre – a crossroad of ideas from North, West and South-East Europe. Director PETER TODOROV is the artistic director of Pro Rodopi Art Centre & president of Pro Rodopi Foundation and one of Europe’s most innovative puppeteers. DESISLAVA MINCHEVA is a director of Pro Rodopi Foundation and an accomplished stage performer.

Get ready to meet the mysterious Stachamoose brothers who hail from the mist-shrouded Orient. Vlado is the enigmatic magician, while Elmer, in the words of Bob Dylan, is a song-and-dance man. Theres Jub-Jub the dexterous dog, performing pooch and clowning canine; the Hansters – part hand, part hamster – and their tale of true love; while a special guest performance is provided in a death-defying tightrope act by a mysteriously shrunken Little Brother.
Your Man’s Puppets is Ireland’s favourite puppet production company that inter mingles storytelling with humour, fantasy and realism. TOMMY BAKER is the Puppet Theatre Director, Puppet builder, performer and educator. For two decades, he’s performed for audiences across the world and has developed his own particular style, drawing from diverse influences in puppetry from all over the world such as marionette and rod puppets from Sweden and Germany, Bunkraku puppetry from Japan, masks from India and also, many Irish Folk Legends. His productions appeal both to the young and old and are humorous and thought-provoking at the same time.
