ISHARA INTERNATIONAL PUPPET FESTIVAL 2015
 

In 2015, the Ishara International Puppet Theatre Festival is jubilant to mark its 13th anniversary with new and exciting performances from India and across the world. From the modern and traditional forms or puppetry, ranging from rod to string puppets; to mixed performances with dance, theatre, music and more; audiences of all ages will be entertained with a variety of vibrant and spellbinding shows.

Produced by Teamwork Productions, the festival is an established platform which nurtures and promotes the mixed medium puppetry in India, and brings forth the best of Indian and International Puppet Theatre for the audience, expanding their cultural experience.

Since its launch in 2001, the festival has brought puppeteers, artists and performers from around the globe together to celebrate storytelling through the puppetry arts. Alongside the best talent India has to offer, over a 100 international puppetry companies have participated in the festival; countries include the UK, Belgium, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Turkey, Brazil, Sweden, Norway, Israel, Iran, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Taiwan, Japan, Afghanistan, Ireland, Australia & USA.

This year the festival will take place from 3 to 12 February 2015 at the Indian Habitat Centre in New Delhi, The Epicentre Gurgaon and Tagore Theatre, Chandigarh.

The Ishara International Puppet Theatre Festival is largely supported by the Ishara Puppet Theatre Trust.

Corporate houses, organisations, media entities & individual donors are welcome to partner and help promote this festival and art form. Donations made to the Ishara Puppet Theatre Trust qualify for exemption under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act.

Ishara brings to life Punjabi Sufi poet Waris Shah’s greatest work about two star-crossed lovers. Heer & Ranjha fall in love at first sight, but fate has something else in store for them. Heer is forced to marry another, and the two lovers later reunite with tragic consequences. A spellbinding poetic presentation, interweaving puppets, actors, dance, visual images and music; there many timeless themes about society & religion in this performance; hypocrisies and anomalies that remained unchanged even in today's modern Indian society.

One of the most loved of all children stories, Pinocchio is the tale about the wooden marionette who wants to become a real boy. The inquisitive and naughty puppet keeps getting into mischief, and is unable to lie about it, for his nose grows long every time he does. After joining the circus and getting swallowed by a shark, will Pinocchio ever tell the truth and get his wish granted by the blue fairy?

A charming show full of romance, magic and adventure, all brought to life through traditional rod, string and shadow puppets. Every night fairies from Chand Nagar come down to play and dance on earth, disguising themselves as peacocks. A beautiful fairy falls into the magic lake, and is rescued by a handsome prince, and the two fall in love with each other. But misfortune strikes as an evil minister uses magic to separate them; will the two sweethearts be together and live happily ever after?

Inspired by the well known fables of La Fontaine and Aesop, this dynamic hand puppet performance magically brings those naughty and lovable creatures to life with music and special sound effects! From a fast-footed camel to a mischievous dog to a hungry singing rabbit, each creature has a story to tell and a moral to teach. Watch with amazement as two hands transform into swans in love, a bear dance the blues, and crabs, fish and sea-snails scamper, swim and slide in a jam jar made sea.

Seeing her reading a book, he decides to impress her by writing a love letter to her. The only problem is that our hero can’t read or write. Will the other animals help him write the letter?

Watch with amazement as a simple piece of paper is transformed into more than fifty different shapes and objects. From a sailing boat on the waves of the sea to flying seagulls searching for love, the stories are beautiful, magical, whimsical and will delight all. The show was created with young children in mind, to excite their imagination and encourage creativity at home with parents and adults.
